Five years may just not be enough for a Government which is committed to fulfill the aspirations of its people. But as the present Government’s tenure draws to an end, one can easily proclaim that the State witnessed unparalleled development and social welfare activities touching the lives of each Malayali within and outside Kerala.

The Government, right from the day one, worked assiduously on its objective of “development with care.” While mega projects like Kochi Metro, light metro, Kannur Airport, Vizhinjam seaport and SmartCity reflected the Government’s commitment to improve Kerala’s infrastructure and to attract investors in a big way, the radical initiatives in social sector ensured that government policies remained inclusive. For a state with a huge population of youth, the Government threw up a sea of opportunities through its startup policy which is being emulated across the country. From job seekers, the youth have now become job givers.

Kerala which has had several firsts in the past, kept pace with IT revolution. First digital state, 100 per cent mobile density, 75 per cent e-literacy and 99 per cent adhar enrolment are achievements that can make anyone envious. IT exports witnessed a huge jump from Rs 3000 Cr to Rs 10,000Cr. An array of National and International awards proved that State’s achievements were being recognized by the world over. The Government ensured food security introducing schemes like rice for Rs 1 per kilo and wheat for Rs 2 per kilo covering lakhs of families’ including BPL category. Initiatives to address housing and land issues were taken through housing policy and zero landless programme.

For a land crammed with coconut palms, project Neera brought succor to struggling coconut farmers. Kerala became first State to have Allopathy, Ayurveda and Homoeo hospitals in all panchayats. In a humongous exercise, hundreds of Malayalis were brought back safe from war torn countries reflecting government’s commitment to NRK’s who form the backbone of State-’s economy. The successful completion of 35th National Games showcased government’s determination to nurture sports. Kerala Technological University, arts and science colleges in all Assembly constituencies and new medical colleges provided major boost to education sector. By accomplishing so much in so little time, this Government has carved a unique place for itself in the State’s history.
